I use Excel a lot for different projects to deliver either reports or tasks, and i always wonder what is the best font to use?
Excel is not a design app, of course, but this doesn’t mean we should not make our reports look a bit pro and not Comic-sans-ish! That would be a crime!
I made a quick test and found mono-space fonts work well; especially to differentiate between the zero and the letter “o” and also the letter “l” and 1 etc..
Here’s the results;
Consolas is a monospaced (non-proportional) typeface, designed by Luc(as) de Groot. It is a part of a suite of fonts that take advantage of Microsoft’s ClearType font rendering technology. It is included with Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Microsoft Office 2007 and Microsoft Visual Studio 2010, and is available for download from Microsoft.
From now on I’ll stick to Consolas from Microsoft; It is available by default in a wide range of windows operating systems.
